Last night the Atlanta Dream played in a non-conference match-up to the 3x WNBA champions, the Minnesota Lynx. The 9-0 undefeated Lynx took a huge W over the Dream 110-78 at Philips Arena. It was not a pretty sight, what started out as a very competitive first half and excellent performance from both teams you would think it would’ve been an interesting match-up. At halftime the game was tied just at 24-24. Angel McCoughtry finished with 22 points & 4 rebounds, Tiffany Hayes with 23 points & 3 rebounds, & Elizabeth Williams with 13 points & 6 rebounds. The visiting Minnesota Lynx had 6 players in double-digits last night. The Atlanta native, Maya Moore finished with 19 points & 5 rebounds, Sylvia Fowles with 14 points & 11 rebounds, Jia Perkins with 18 points & 3 rebounds, Lindsay Whalen with 17 points & 3 rebounds, Renee Montgomery with 13 points & 2 rebounds, & Natasha Howard with 13 points & 1 rebound. The Dream went 33.8% from the field while the Lynx went 55.1%. Turnovers contributed to the 32 point lost, Atlanta had 19 turnovers to Minnesota’s 11 turnover game. The Lynx were able to get 32 points off Atlanta’s turnovers. The second half went nothing like the first half, it was as if Atlanta ran out of energy to finish the game strong. The Dream rotated their entire bench, trying to find that right group to get back into the competitive groove they had first half; unfortunately Atlanta was unable to perform the task & fell short to make a huge comeback before the final buzzer sound. It was a very physical game, both teams were in foul trouble most of the night giving both teams the advantage of getting to the free throw line. Atlanta is now 6-3, still holding the best record in the conference & the 3rd best record in the league behind Minnesota & Los Angeles. The Dream will play tomorrow at 3 PM EST in a conference match-up with the 2-7 Connecticut Sun here at Philips Arena. Will Atlanta be able to redeem themselves after the horrific Friday night 32 point lost?
