Behind timely hitting and six innings of two run baseball by Williams Perez, the Braves got a much needed series opening win. Freddie Freeman tallied two hits while Jeff Francoeur went 4-5 on the night. The final score was 4-2 and the Braves improved to 13-34 on the season.
After trailing for the first five innings of the game, the Braves broke through when Tyler Flowers doubled to deep center to make the score 2-1. Jeff Francoeur then followed with the game-tying single.
Williams Perez pitched a beautiful six innings of baseball, giving up only two runs on seven hits and one walk. However, Perez did not get the win, but he ended up with a no decision.
The Braves finally broke the tie in the 8th inning after a Martin Prado error (which was later changed to a hit) to go ahead 4-2. Arodys Vizcaino then proceeded to slam the door on the Marlins for his 6th save of the year. Ian Krol picked up the win after an inning of relief out of the pen.
Other Notes: Freddie Freeman had been hitting just .186 in his last 14 games and was 1 for 26 with RISP. Hopefully his two-hit performance tonight is a sign of him getting back on track.
Game MVP: Jeff Francoeur- 4-5, 1 RBI.
Tomorrow’s first pitch is scheduled for 3:10 PM. Aaron Blair has been recalled from Gwinnett and will get the start following an atrocious nine-run outing in Pittsburgh two weeks ago.
