The Braves have had a rocky start to the 2016 that consists of an 0-7 start and injuries to many key players. Things only got worse on Tuesday morning as Braves LF, Hector Olivera, was arrested for a domestic dispute.
Police in Arlington, Va received a phone call this morning at 6:51am concerning a domestic dispute between an unidentified woman and Hector Olivera. Shortly after the police were called, Olivera was retrieved from the Ritz-Carlton and taken into custody. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the alleged victim was sent to Vriginia Hospital Center with apparent bruises.
The Braves have yet to release a statement.
Olivera was brought to Atlanta after being a key piece of the trade that sent Alex Wood and Jim Johnson to the Los Angeles Dodgers during the 2015 season. Olivera is a Cuban native who escaped the country in 2014 and was then signed by the Dodgers soon after. Between his lackluster performance and apparent off the field issues, it should be interesting to see what the Braves do with the 31 year old Cuban.
So far in the 2016 season, Olivera has hit .211 with 2 RBIs. With Olivera out for the immediate future, Jeff Francoeur will probably handle a majority of playing time in left field.
