So, the Braves rotation in 2016 will be… interesting to say the least. With Julio Teheran the only solid starter and no-doubt starter out of the five, spots 2-5 have reason to be questioned. We already know that spots 1-2-3 will be filled by Julio Teheran, Bud Norris, and Matt Wisler respectively. However, and with only five days left (at the time of this article) until Opening Day, the Braves still don’t know who’ll fill spots 4-5. Coming into Spring Training, Jhoulys Chacin, Mike Foltynewicz, Manny Banuelos,Kyle Kendrick, Williams Perez and recently one of the biggest (and most pleasant) surprises of the Spring John Gant. However, there are some problems here. Jhoulys Chacin has looked good at times, but has struggled as of late leaving the Braves to question his ability to become the fourth or fifth starter, Mike Foltynewicz was recently optioned to AAA Gwinnett (he was coming into the Spring two weeks behind schedule due to a blood-clot so this’ll give him time to catch up with the other guys and hopefully join Atlanta sometime in the near future), Manny Banuelos has recently been sidelined with more elbow trouble (ugh), Kyle Kendrick has been long gone, Williams Perez has also done decent, but has also had some flashes of trouble as of late, and John Gant they aren’t trying to rush because they feel he has tons of potential. So, as it stands as of right now, Jhoulys Chacin and Williams Perez remain basically the only other two candidates fit for spots four and five. Like I said, if we are going to at least try to compete this year, we need a good starter. But, we’ll see how it all plays out.
