Eric O’Flaherty Returns To Atlanta

Former Braves LHP Eric O’Flaherty is BACK with the Atlanta Braves! He was traded on Sunday to the Braves for cash considerations. O’Flaherty, 31, is a 10 year veteran who last pitched for Atlanta from 2009-13. While he was pretty much solid throughout his stint with the Braves, his best year came in 2011 when he posted a mind-boggling .98 ERA! However, since then he has been with the Athletics and Mets and quite frankly, he’s struggled. While he was still pretty decent in 2014, after that is when the wheels came off the bus. In 2015 with the A’s he posted a 5.91 ERA over 25 appearances but after being traded he posted a 13.50 ERA over just 16 appearances with the Mets. Overall, he logged a 8.10 ERA over 41 combined games played in 2015. And this Spring hasn’t looked any brighter for the lefty, as he allowed 8 runs over 15 hits in just 9.1 IP. But to be cautiously optimistic, he had similar struggles in Seattle before coming to Atlanta in ’09 and we all know how we turned out after that so we’ll see if he can become the type of pitcher he was when he was apart of the Big Three at the back of Atlanta’s ‘pen dubbed O’Ventbrel (Man do I miss those days). If he can perform well enough from here on out, he will have the chance to open the season in Atlanta’s ‘pen largely due to the fact of LHP Ian Krol’s struggle and recent demotion to minor league camp. Krol was acquired in the deal that sent Cameron Maybin to Detroit.
