Don’t Call It A Comeback…

Actually it was a great comeback by the hometown Braves! Last night the defending Major League Baseball (MLB) champions, San Francisco Giants, were leading 6-0 heading into the bottom of the 6th inning. Matt Cain was throwing a six hit shutout up until this point. All 23,428 in attendance knew that something had to happen soon or it would be 428 people singing “take me out to ball game” in the 7th. Right on cue, Jace Peterson hits a three-run homer, the fourth straight hit in the inning by the Braves. The lead is cut in half. Makakis singles to left and scores Garcia to cut the lead to 6-4.

After the “7th inning stretch”, Chris Johnson hit a solo home run to center to lead off. He was in the game because of an earlier injury to Freddie Freeman. Now the Braves are only down 1 run. All is not lost. In the top of the 9th inning, the Giants added an insurance run to take a 7-5 lead. The Braves showed their fortitude by tying the game at 7 with an AJ Pierzynski two run homer to force extra innings.

After 2 scoreless innings of free baseball, the Giants take a one run lead thanks to Buster Posey’s single to center scoring Tomlinson. This was another two out run scored by the Giants. The Braves could have folded but didn’t. Adonis Garcia steps to the plate, with Peterson on base, and hits a walk off two run homer to win the game 9-8. Braves win! Braves win! Braves win! Thankfully we may get to know these Braves players a little bit better since the trade deadline has passed.
