The Braves have traded Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson to the mets today. The Braves are reportedly getting pitching prospects Jon Gant and Rob Whalen. The trade was expected since many Braves players were reportedly going to get dealt with. This can possibly be a great trade since the Mets have a powerful farm of pitchers ripe for the picking.
Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson were both new players for the Braves. Juan Uribe was having an average season so far and Johnson was there as the utility man. This can be a great trade as stated previously, but it can be a bad one too since we will lose pretty good offensive players and to none other than our division rivals. Jon Gant is 6-5 with a 3.72ERA over the course of 17 single-A and double-A appearances, and Rob Whalen is 4-5 with a 3.36ERA. Uribe and Johnson’s contracts combined would cost $8 million and they’ll both be free agents at the end of the season. This is a low risk-high reward move for the Mets and it could possibly be the opposite for the Braves.
