Hawks Officially Trade for Splitter

Today, the Hawks officially traded for Tiago Splitter. Splitter is a 6’11, 245 pound forward/center who will look to improve to the Hawks post game on offense and defense. During his career, Splitter has averaged 8.3 PPG, 5.3 RPG, and 1.3 APG while averaging 19.8 minutes per game. Splitter is familiar with the system that the Hawks are running because he spent all five years of his career in San Antonio where Coach Bud was assistant coach. “We’re excited to bring Tiago to Atlanta,” Hawks president of basketball operations/head coach Mike Budenholzer said in a statement. “He’s played an important role in a winning environment, has a great understanding of our system and will add to our core character. Tiago also brings championship experience and we look forward to adding his interior presence to our team.”
The Hawks gave up the rights for 2007 second-round pick Georgios Printezis, who they acquired in the Thabo Sefolosha trade with Oklahoma City, and a top-55 protected 2017 second-round pick. This means that the Spurs will only receive the pick if it is between 56-60. The Hawks basically gave up nothing to acquire Splitter because the Spurs wanted to get rid of his contract to clear cap space. Splitter’s contract has two years remaining and he will earn $8.5 million next season. Splitter will be wearing number 11 for the Hawks and hopes to make an instant impact.
