Your Atlanta Hawks have taken a 3-2 series lead against the Washington Wizards in the Eastern Conference Semifinals! Despite a poor game offensively, the Hawks pull out an 82-81 win at home and spoil John Wall’s return to action.
Great defensive efforts led to a Hawks win tonight as they recorded 13 blocked shots and caused the Wizards to shoot 37.5% from the field. As stated in the preview, rebounding was key in this game and the Hawks were crashing the glass hard and totaled 50 rebounds to the Wizards 46. The biggest rebound was by Al Horford off of Dennis Schröder’s missed lay-up in the final seconds of the game. Horford’s rebound led to the game-winning put back lay-up. This game undoubtedly had fans of both teams on the edge of their seats.
Paul Pierce came close to breaking Hawks fans’ hearts again as he buried a corner three with 8 seconds left. The Hawks were able to advance the ball to their side of the court on a timeout which led to Horford’s game-winner.
Horford is the Hawks’ Player of the Game, not only for hitting the game-winner, but for stuffing the stat sheet with 23 points on 10/18 shooting from the field, 11 rebounds, and 5 blocks.
The Hawks are now just one win away from advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals. The next game will be in Washington D.C. on Friday at 7 pm ET. Stay tuned for the Game 6 preview and remember to support your Hawks by wearing red on Friday!
